THIS SCARF COMMEMORATES the February 15, 1836 departure of Erastus “Deaf” Smith from the besieged Alamo.

At great personal risk, he carried a letter from William Barrett Travis to Gen. Sam Houston, at Washington-on-the-Brazos, approximately 150 miles northeast, asking for reinforcements. Smith, a soldier and spy for Travis, was known as the “bravest of the brave.” Having no army to relieve Travis, Houston dispatched Smith on March 13 to find and report the news of the defenders. Smith returned to General Houston with Alamo survivors Susanna W. Dickinson and her daughter Angelina.

The scarf depicts flintlocks, daggers, Mexican spurs and swords which would have been used during the period of the Texas Republic. The surrounding design represents the pleated skirts often worn by regional women of the day. This project was spearheaded by visionary Janell Kleberg, in collaboration with renowned western artist Mark Kohler with Alicia and Margaret McAllen's Estancia Clothing Company of San Antonio.

All proceeds will go to South Texas Charity Weekend
